A Campaign for Typhoon Ulysses Victims – November 11, 2020 – Families -from children to senior citizens leaping on top of their roofs as they watch the water level hit the ceilings of the second floor of their homes. Distant wails of people, young and old, seeking help. Typhoon Ulysses ravaged through their homes during the dead of night.

November 12, 2020 – Over 73 lives lost and around 20 bodies still missing. Rescue missions began as homes in Luzon’s central part and areas in greater Manila remained submerged underwater. Over 174 homes were damaged, and around 10.1 billion worth of damages -infrastructures, properties, crops, and produce were destroyed by Ulysses’ winds and floods.

A Devastating Time for the Philippines

These and more occurred in just two days, as one of the biggest typhoons in Philippine history landed in the greater part of Luzon last November 11-12, 2020. Despite the continuous information dissemination, many families were still caught unprepared by the devastating capabilities of nature’s wrath.

Ulysses unleashed its power in the Luzon area and left swathes of the island region with people scattered, looking for a sanctuary after the typhoon. As the water began to subside, non-profit organizations, charities, the government, and private individuals quickly organized rescue missions, donation drives, relief operations, and organized campaigns to be able to help the victims of typhoon Ulysses back to their feet.

A Call for Help: Campaign for Typhoon Ulysses’ Victims

International organizations also quickly extended aid to the country as its people faced another challenging chapter in Philippine history. China alone donated around PHP 22 million as financial aid to the government for the Filipinos affected by Typhoon Ulysses. The Chinese Embassy also donated a total of PHP 7.3 million worth of relief goods distributed in Albay and areas in the Catanduanes provinces.

Local celebrities quickly used their influence as they launched donation drives and personally offered money from their pockets to help the typhoon’s displaced victims immediately. Heart Evangelista auctioned her items. Rabiya Mateo, recently crowned Miss Philippines Universe launched donation drives for the same cause. Beauty mogul Vicky Belo and her family immediately packed goods and reliefs distributed to families affected in Marikina City. Several other big names in politics, social media, and entertainment extended their help through kind and monetary donations to ease the families’ burden affected by the strongest typhoon that landed in the Philippines this 2020.

There is hope in the face of adversity. The Quick Mission is as eager as these organizations to provide immediate help and assistance to the communities directly hit by this catastrophe. Our team seeks collaboration and partnerships with local organizations and charities to identify individuals and communities, especially in areas that are least noticed and reached by donation drives and local media. We also aim to reach out to other communities affected by disasters that are not currently covered by ongoing relief and rescue operations.
